Grand Baie is the iconic heart of northern Mauritius. It is a stunning location where you can fly your eFoil or electric hydrofoil board through deep, turquoise water with a backdrop of luxury catamarans.

1. Smarter Launch Points

The public beach isn’t overly crowded, but you may have to dodge a few swimmers and navigate between tightly moored boats immediately. For a much smoother start, head to the South/West side:

  • Beach Kitchen****: This is the easiest logistics choice. The parking lot is very close to the sand, making the carry from your car to the water quick and effortless. Reviewers love the “feet-in-the-sand” vibe here.
  • Eden Beach: Another great option with its own small customer parking lots. It has a chic, “Riviera” feel where the tables are just meters from the water’s edge.
  • The Pro Tip: Both spots are welcoming to eFoilers. If you ask politely and grab a drink or a snack, they are usually happy to let you launch from their beach.

2. The Conditions & Hazards

  • Depth: The bay is generally deep and perfect for cruising, but keep an eye on the tide.
  • Low Tide Alert: Be careful of occasional rocks that hide just below the surface when the water drops. A hit at speed will damage your carbon fiber wings.
  • Boat Traffic: This bay is a major harbor. Stay visible for the captains and avoid the main navigation channels.

3. The Flight Plan

  • The Safe Zone: Staying inside the big bay is great for speed runs and safely testing your limits.
  • Tours: You can ride out toward Coin de Mire or along the coast to Mont Choisy.
  • Safety Rule: Never do these long tours alone. If you have a technical issue outside the bay, the current is strong. Always ride with a buddy for missions outside the lagoon.

4. Post-Session Fuel

  • Beachside Dining:
    • Beach Kitchen: Known for its friendly staff and great seafood platters.
    • Eden Beach: Perfect for a high-end lunch or a “Plateau Océan” while watching the bay.
    • The Beach House: The go-to spot for a burger and a cold beer after a session.
